For this profile of Cambridge University neuroscientist Professor Giovanna Mallucci, who specialises in neurodegeneration and Alzheimer’s disease, we use the shadow of a tree at the Addenbrooke’s Hospital to represent the synapses of the human brain – which are broken down and lost through Alzheimer’s disease.
